Education and Experience
Kristen received her BA in Sociology at Pepperdine University and went on to complete a M.Ed. in Counseling at the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. Kristen has spent the last 25 years in fields such as college student career counseling, academic advising, coaching youth and adult athletes, homeschooling and teaching, and freelance fitness writing. For several years prior to her work at the Austin Stone Counseling Center, Kristen served in ministry as a lay counselor handling a range of issues including school crisis, grief counseling, suicide response, and marriage and family issues. Kristen is passionate to share the love of Christ, the source of healing and strength, with those she counsels. She desires to walk alongside others in their pain, and participate with them in the journey of transformation.
Interests and Specialties
Kristen has experience working with parenting issues, adolescents, career development, marriage, faith struggles, family systems, depression, anxiety/stress, grief/loss, self-harm, relationship issues, singleness, shame/guilt, aging issues, sports psychology, and eating disorders/body image.
Kristen is also a certified personal fitness trainer, a United States Triathlon Certified Coach, a high school swim coach, and former college swimmer and Ironman triathlete. She is a trained parent education facilitator for the Institute for Sexual Health, and enjoys equipping parents to talk to their kids about sex. Kristen is passionate about integrating the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of personhood as an expression of wholeness in Christ. Kristen has three children (including two teenagers!) and she and her husband Nate have been married since 1994.
